Welcome to Singpore, the city of consumption. Goods and good food! After our journey through India, we could not have chosen a more contrast country than Singapore. This metropolis is in many aspects, the complete opposite to intense but amazing India. However, they have one important thing in common: delicious food, especially sweets. Believe us, wandering through the city will make you hungry even if you´ve just eaten. What kind of sweets you can find in Singpore is a long list, mainly influenced by the Chinese kitchen. Some of them require high knowledge about traditional asian kitchen, some, such as ice cream toast, are simple but irresistible. However, they all have one thing in common: they are all colourful and inviting.

THE ice cream toast

Do you know the curiosity of finding out if you still like things from your childhood? Would your favourite ice cream still taste as good as you remember? I have been thinking about this ice cream sandwich since thirteen year old me was in Singapore for family holiday. Back then, my sister and me could not stop eating this colourful ice cream composition and it was usually sold by elderly man with a small ice stand at each corner. So when Christian and me decided to go to Singapore, I could not wait to taste this piece of childhood again. Unfortunately, to find a stand was not as easy as it used to be. But we were lucky in Chinatown and my time travelling experience confirms: it was as good as I remembered!

For those who got curious or now think that we have left our taste buds in India, can find below a simple instruction for a homemade ice cream toast.

What you need for the perfect ice cream toast

  • Brioche bread cut into slices
  • Your favourite type of ice cream – ideally cut into blocks
  • Courage to try something new

How to do it

  • Put your ice cream out of the container and cut one block off.
  • Take one fluffy piece of Brioche and fold in the ice cream.
  • Bite off one big chunk and enjoy, but be careful of brain freezing 😛

  • …3!

Do it yourself from beginner level to advanced

What makes the ice cream toast even more special, is the freedom to adjust the ingredients to your preferences and skills in the kitchen. Starting from preparing even the ice cream and brioche bread at home to adding some peanut butter, chocolate sprinkles or fruits – you can choose. But be careful, it is addictive!

What other sweets has Singapore to offer?

Besides ice cream sandwiches you can also indulge in a huge variety of other sweet street foods. We tried some exclusively for you (and our stomaches), so that you know what is waiting for you to be eaten.
